Wetland Project Skravad Bæk

Wetland Project Skravad Bæk North of Bjerregrav

Viborg Municipality has concluded a preliminary investigation in 2020-2021 to explore the possibilities of establishing a wetland around Skravad Bæk. The project area of approx. 112 ha is located in the lower part of the watercourse just before it flows into Skals Å. The project aims to reduce the nitrogen input to the Limfjord. The preliminary investigation revealed that reducing the projects area to 64 ha would be more effective. The expected effect is a nitrogen reduction of 58 kg N/ha per year. Approval for the projects was granted in December 2021. The projects will restore the watercource, eliminate drainage ditches, and raise the streambed in several places. This will result in a more natural hydrology and conditions that are more dynamic in large parts of the valley, benefiting the alkaline fens an springs that are currently drained.

The projects will be implemented through voluntary agreements with farmers and a land consolidation involving approx. 40 properties and 64 ha.
