Removal of barrier at Rebstrup Fiskeri in Sønderup River
Removal of barrier at Rebstrup Fiskeri in Sønderup River
The project is a municipal water plan initiative aimed at creating free passage for fauna at the barrier in Sønderup River, near Rebstrup Fiskeri. This is done to both improve the ecological condition of the river and ensure favourable conservation status for protected species.
The project area is located around the dam at Rebstrup Fiskeri, including the associated ponding zone, extending approx. 1000 meters upstream. Implementation of the project will create more natural gradient conditions over a stretch of approx. 1250 meters, benefiting flora and fauna. Water levels in the stream will be lowered by up to 80 cm, and as a compensatory measure drainage and water intake from nearby alkaline fens and springs will be interrupted. This will keep an area of 0.4 hectares of alkaline fens and springs saturated, which is expected to improve the existing habitat type in the area.
The project is a joint initiative between Limfjord Sekretariatet and Rebild Municipality with Rebild Municipality as the projects owner.
The project was concluded in 2022 by voluntary agreement with the fish farm owner.
