Lowland Project Hærup Sø

Lowland Project in the Skals Å River Valley by the Lake Hærup Sø

Viborg Municipality has received DKK 10,5 million to establish a lowland project at Lake Hærup in the Skals Å river valley. The project area is located within Natura 2000 area no. 30.

Lowland projects contribute to reducing agriculture's CO2 emissions, by removing areas from rotation and raising the water level. This project comprises two sub-areas totaling 79 ha, 97% of which are located on peat soils.

There are 20 landowners within the project area, who are compensated for including their land in the project through land consolidation and making restraint agreements.

In connection with the project, there will be a remeandering of a stream, the closing of ditches and drains, and the establishment of more appropriate hydrology for habitat types.
