Climate Lowland Project Sjørring Kær – Preliminary Investigation
Climate Lowland Project Sjørring Kær northeast of Sjørring – Preliminary Investigation
In 2023, the Danish Nature Agency has concluded a preliminary investigation for the climate lowland project Sjørring Kær northeast of Sjørring in Viborg Municipality. The project area is part of Natureman subregion N30-11.
The investigation area covers 82 ha and involves 9 landowners. Project measures will be to create a natural hydrology by cutting off ditches and drains, as well as decommissioning the pumping station, which is responsible for the internal drainage of parts of the project area. In addition, there is a partial rerouting of Sjørring Kanal's existing course.
The project is expected to retain 1,734 tons of CO2e annually, corresponding to 21.1 tons of CO2e/ha/year. The expected nitrogen reduction is 2,855 kg N/year, corresponding to 35 kg N/ha/year. A phosphorus release of 111.5 kg P per year during the implementation of the project. But with the cumulative impact from the nearby projects Gråkær and Lindum Enge, there is a reduction in the phosphorus supply to Hjarbæk Fjord.
