Climate lowland project Kvorning is located in the river valley Nørreådalen, south of Kvorning and Mollerup, approx. midway between Viborg and Randers in Viborg Municipality. The project area is located in Natura 2000 area 30: "Lovns Bredning, Hjarbæk Fjord, Simested og Nørre Ådal samt Skravad Bæk" in Natureman subregion N30-11.

The climate lowland project covers an area of 430 ha. The project actions will be section-by-section or point-by-point filling of ditches, removing drains, establishment of weirs in streams and ditches, re-meandering of streams, establishment of ground scraping, establishment or adaptation of pipe bridges, as well as securing access roads.

The project is expected to retain 5,676 tonnes of CO₂e annually, corresponding to 13.2 tonnes of CO₂e/ha/year. The project will simultaneously reduce the discharge of nitrogen into Randers Fjord by 13 tonnes/year. The expected nitrogen reduction is 13,058 kg N/year, corresponding to 30 kg N/ha/year. With the outlined project, it was calculated that there will be an annual release of phosphorus of approx. 1,324.6 kg P. However, this is not critical in relation to the P cut-off value for Randers Fjord. Overall, the project will contribute to improving the environmental condition and better conditions for animals and plants in Randers Fjord, and the stream quality in several smaller streams will improve. The project will improve the biodiversity and cohesion of habitats and nature types in the Natura 2000 area.

The projects preliminary investigation was prepared in 2018 and construction work is expected to be completed in 2025. It is carried out through voluntary agreements with farmers and is integrated with the multi-functional land consolidation in Nørre Ådalen. Through the multifunctional land consolidation, several wishes and needs in the area, such as e.g. recreational purposes, improving biodiversity, groundwater protection and local reallocation of agricultural properties.
