Seminar on "Technical aids and supervision of animals in nature management"

On 20 September 2022, a seminar was held at Halkær Inn near Nibe on technical aids and supervision of animals. There were 55 participants, all of whom in one way or another have nature management as a branch of business in their daily work, i.e., farmers/nature managers, advisers, employees from municipalities and agencies as well as representatives from e.g., Aage V. Jensen Nature Foundation, etc.

The morning offered a presentation on the practical use of drones and GPS in nature conservation.

  • Sebastian Jensen, Nordjysk Dronecenter gave a presentation on the use of drones with reference to the supervision of animals, fences and grazing areas. After this, there was a demonstration with a flight over a nature area.
  • Steffen Verlin and Helge Bay Smidt gave presentations on their experiences with drones in the supervision of animals in nature care. Steffen and Helge both participate in 2-year trial, where drones and GPS collars are tested, and the farmers experiences are collected.
  • Questions from the audience were directed by Søren Himmelstrup from AMU Nordjylland.

The afternoon's program included a trip to the nearby nature areas, where 3 teams demonstrated the use of drones and there was plenty of time for discussion and questions.

Back at Halkær Inn, Søren Himmelstrup facilitated a workshop on the advantages and disadvantages of participating in nature management projects - with a focus on communication between the project's employees and other participants. Input from the workshop must be used in developing the project's communication and ensuring more sharing of knowledge and synergy among the agricultural consultants the farmers and the municipalities/the Nature Agency.

Presentations from the seminar day can be found here.
