Special Management of Species and Habitat Types

Special Management of Species and Habitat Types

Grazing and clearing are not always enough to provide the desired management for a particular habitat type or species. There may be areas where grazing does not produce the desired effect due to special conditions. For example, the areas may be too wet or there are areas which the animals do not have access to.

Management of a specific type of habitat can present challenges in relation to particular and/or endangered species in the same area. In these cases, a special intervention may be necessary to ensure a favorable development of a particular species.

As a starting point, the focus will be on the NATURA 2000 sites basis of designation and Annex IV- species. Other species characteristic of the habitat types may come into play.

Several areas will be subject to threats from non-native (invasive alien) species, such as the Giant Hogweed, which threatens the rare species and habitats. Controlling these invasive alien species will reduce this threat and enhance the possibility of the rare species to proliferate.

The project is working on various activities: management of for the rare species and species that require special care, special measures in connection with nature restoration and the fight against invasive alien species.
