Work is now starting to establish a 513 ha low-land project in Halkær river valley

Vesthimmerlands Municipality has received a grant of DKK 48 million for the establishment of a large continuous low-land project of 513 ha in Halkær river valley from Ågårds Bro to Vegger.

Halkær ådal

The river valley is made wetter by meandering the stream, completely or partially interrupting drains and ditches and periodic flooding with stream water. At the same time, there will be an extensification of the agricultural use of the area. The project will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 3,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalents per year and the emission of nitrogen into the Limfjord by 19 tonnes per year. When the low-land project is completed, the municipality will use Life IP Natureman funds to try to optimize nature in the Natura 2000 area in cooperation with the local farmers.
