The areas were cleared of common broom in the winter and the grazing agreements were made with the animal keeper. We have also ensured public access to the top Gjøl Bjerg.
As something new, we have chosen not to put fences along the water’s edge to Ulvedybet. However, it turned out that the animals got out of the paddock by wading/swimming past the fence. We have therefore had the fence extended into the water and along the dam.
We face many challenges, but we solve them together. Among other things, we have been waiting for the animals to find their way through the scrub and onto the new grazing areas on top of Gjøl Bjerg. This does not happen with the current animals and we have therefore decided to find animals that are more suitable for the task. In Natureman, we have the opportunity to borrow cows from the project. The animal keeper would like to find solutions and we are therefore waiting to see if Dexter cattle can be found for grazing the area. Dexter cattle are known for being robust in thickets and difficult terrain. The cooperation between the animal keeper and the municipality is going very well and it is fantastic that there are so many opportunities in the Natureman project, which can help us in our goal of ensuring the best nature management of the areas.
