Field walking at Gjøl – catchment area for Ulvedybet

Ulvedybet at Gjøl

It was a beautiful late summer afternoon on Monday 13th September, that a group of landowners, animal husbandries, hunters and other stakeholders from the local community met on Bjerget and participated in the field walking. The municipality welcomed and told about the possibilities in the project “The farmer as a manager of nature”. Nature conservation on the large beach meadows is an important action for the many breeding birds in the area.  The area is a Special Protection Area (SPA). The purpose of the hike was to talk to each other and talk about solutions that can meet several interests.

It was agreed, that the overgrowth on Bjerget has become too large and there should be a clearing of Cytisus scoparius. This is to create a better view and knowledge of Bjerget and to accommodate the flora on the calcareous Bjerget. Representatives from DOF (BirdLife Denmark) and consultants from the farmers' association also attended the walk.

We look forward to an additional meeting in a near future with the landowners and animal husbandries, where the consultants from the farmers' association can help us make applications for new fences and clearing of Cytisus scoparius.
