In the project of Life Natureman, Viborg Municipality have composed an overall vision report for the development of the area surrounding Lake Hærup. The project area is 1040 ha and consist of, amongst others, 22.5 ha alkaline fens, 8 areas with springs and areas with nardus grassland. The area is a part of Natura 2000-site 30: Lovns Bredning, Hjarbæk Fjord, Simested and Nørre Ådale as well as Skravad Bæk.
