Work on a Multifunctional Land Distribution in Nørreådalen has begun

25th of June 2020, the Danish Nature Agency received conditional consent for free land consolidation in Nørreådalen at Ørum and Kvorning under the scheme Multifunctional Land Consolidation (Multifunktionel Jordfordeling; MUFJO). The government has allocated 150 Mio. kr for the realization of multifunctional land consolidation, where consideration for nature, water environment, climate, farming, outdoor life and regional development are combined. At the first application round, 3 projects received conditional consent. Before the Danish Agricultural Agency gives final consent, they carry out a property preliminary in the area. This will be done during fall 2020.

The application for MUFJO has been carried out in collaboration with Viborg Municipality and The Danish Nature Agency in the joined project LIFE IP Natureman. The application is based on Viborg Municiplaitys work with the development of a landscape strategy for Nørreådalen. The landscape strategy Nørreådalen is partly incorporated in a research project at Copenhagen University (regional landscape strategy), and partly a complementary project to LIFE IP Natureman

Landscape strategy is a tool to show how Nørreådalen can develop in the future. It will describe what farmers, users, landowners, local community, industry and residents, etc, can and will invest in the area. In the landscape strategy work, many have shown interest in land consolidation to solve several problems in the area.

In addition to the landscape strategy work, the background for the application of MUFJO is, in this area, several wet- and lowland projects. Especially in these larger projects, it is natural to consider land consolidation in a larger perspective and simultaneously consider several interests and requests. 

The elements wished to work further on in this area under MUFJO is:

  • Natura 2000 actions with a focus on alkaline fens, springs and grasslands
  • The wetland project at Velds Møllebæk of 77 ha that is considering clean water environment
  • The lowland project at Kvorning of 444 ha, that is reducing greenhouse gasses and increases the content of nature
  • The lowland project at Heltzen Enge of 139 ha, that is reducing greenhouse gasses and increases the content of nature
  • Groundwater protection of areas with drinking water at Ørum
  • Preservation of approx. 100 meter road from the bronze age at Kvorning
  • Paths and recreational facilities
  • Improved zoning of agricultural areas inside this area and increase of areas with ecology

The core area is approx. 4500 ha, where it is estimated that besides land consolidation in the wetland- and lowland projects, can be made further land consolidation of 1000 ha.
