Municipalities and the Danish Nature Agency asks for input regarding Skals Ådal

In collaboration with Randers, Viborg and Mariagerfjord municipalities, the Danish Nature Agency, Himmerland has initiated a development project in Skals Ådal and would like to know what ideas citizens and landowners in the area have for developing the river valley. That is why we invite you to an open tent event.

Currently it is an area in the Skals Å river valley between Nørbæk, Lindum, Sdr. Onsild and Handest, which is part of a development project aimed at protecting and promoting the nature of the river valley.

But what does it take to reach that goal?

This is asked by representatives from the Danish Nature Agency, Viborg, Randers and Mariagerfjord municipalities as well as the agricultural associations Agri Nord and Velas. It takes place from 25-27. June at an Open Tent event at Hobrovej 170, Tjele.

The representatives would like to hear the wishes of citizens, landowners and other local stakeholders for the future in the river valley, and what facilities you would like in the area. It could be, for example, lookouts, accommodations, or hiking trails.

Furthermore, farmers' ideas on how future operations can contribute to the conservation of nature and increased climate action are requested. Inside the tent information about project options and support schemes as well as land consolidation and other options for compensation are available.

- It is part of the project that we must consider the wishes of the stakeholders. They can contribute to local development, strengthen agriculture in the area, improve the nature of the river valley and create new local recreational opportunities for the area, says project manager Kjeld Lundager Jørgensen from the Danish Nature Agency, Himmerland.

Wide effort

The area in Skals Å river valley is part of a large coherent plan for several NATURA 2000-sites in Himmerland and Central Jutland. The Danish Nature Agency and the municipalities concerned work on the EU co-financed project: "LIFE IP Natureman - The Farmer as Nature Manager".

The project has just entered the phase of finding out which elements to include in the plan for the area.

The idea of the project is to develop a plan for a wide effort that can accommodate a variety of interests related to the area, including agriculture, nature conservation, climate, watercourses and the local people´s wishes for the development of the area, says Kjeld Lundager Jørgensen.

The Danish Nature Agency and municipalities are in the process of developing a plan for Skals Å river valley, and now they would like to have input from citizens and landowners.
