The 168-hectare area is located on the edge of the hilly river valley Lindenborg Å, where there are several unique natural areas with calcareous grassland, nardus grassland, alkaline fens, meadows and old oak forests. 110 hectares of the area is within Natura 2000 site 18. Within the area, approximately 2.5 hectares are designated as alkaline fens, 13.5 ha as nardus grassland and 20 ha as forest habitat nature. The area also includes 18 hectares of meadows towards the river Lindenborg Å, as well as forest and grassland.
The new area is situated next to the national nature area Skindbjerglund north of Rold Skov. Thus, a larger, coherent natural area of 225 hectares is established. In the coming years, restoration of both untouched forests and nature will occur.
Parts of the newly acquired nature area is covered with Christmas trees in recent years, but now it is restored as grassland, one of the most endangered habitats in Denmark. There will be grazing animals throughout the area across the untouched forest and open countryside. Access to the area will be improved simultaneously so that visitors can enjoy the magnificent views of the river. The Danish Nature Agency will prepare a future management and development plan.
