Lowland Project Lindum Enge – Preliminary Investigation

Lowland Projects Lindum Enge in Skalsådalen – Preliminary investigation

Map of the investigation area.

A preliminary investigation has been conducted by the Danish Nature Agency in 2020-2022. The project aims to investigate the possibility for a lowland project at Lindum Enge, located in the river valley, Skalsådalen immediately east of Lindum Skov. The area is located in Natura 2000 area 33: "Tjele Langsø og Vinge Møllebæk".

The investigation area covers an area of 142 ha. Project actions will be the interruption of drainage through drains and ditches, as well as the extensification of agricultural operations.

The project is expected to retain 1,010 tonnes of CO2e, corresponding to 10.3 tonnes CO2e per ha. The project will simultaneously reduce the discharge of nitrogen into Hjarbæk Fjord via Skals Å by approx. 5.1 tonnes N/year, corresponding to 52 kg N/ha/year. The project will therefore improve the environmental condition and provide better conditions for flora and fauna in Hjarbæk Fjord. The project will improve the biodiversity and cohesion of habitats and nature types in the Natura 2000 area.

The project will be realized as the climate lowland project Lindum Enge.

Further information about the project can be found on the Danish Nature Agency website: Lindum Enge Lavbundsprojekt - Forundersøgelse.
